This directory is used to download a demo version of Psa's virtual Textbook on the topic of Strength of Materials (the first three chapters).

It is a demo version of the first three chapters for you to review and evaluate so that you might use the completed version 2.0 soon to be released.

The full version 2.0 has an estimated release date of August 2004.

To download a copy of Strength of Materials Virtual Text Demo...

To view the virtual text you must have a copy of Psa's PolyTechReader installed on your computer. The PolyTechReader is available from the home page as well as on this current form. Like Adobe Reader, which is used to display .pdf files, the PolyTechReader is used to display .ptr files from PSA.

If you have not already installed the PolyTechReader, you may download the it from this form.

It is suggested you first create an empty directory on your computer such as "C:\Temp", into which to save the downloaded PolyTechReader file...psaptr.exe. This is a self-extracting file which will begin to install when double-clicked.

Use Windows Explorer to instruct your computer to use the PolyTechReader to display a file with the extension .ptr. Once the PolyTechReader has been installed, use Windows Explorer, select...Tools, then select...Folder Options, then select...File Types. Scroll through the available extensions. You will find the extension PTR since you previously installed the PolyTechReader. Select PTR and then browse to the directory within which the PolyTechReader was installed and select the executable file...psaptr.exe. Now, a double click on any file with a .ptr extension will use the PolyTechReader. Click on The Strength of Material Demo in the table below to download and save or immediately view the first three chapters of a virtual text.
